“The P2C packs a better punch than many bikes at twice
the price” - Triathlete magazine
“No upgrades are required. Slap on a set of race wheels and you’re ready
to win Kona” - Dan Empfield, founder QR and editor Slowtwitch.com
Dan Empfield made the quote above last year, and he didn’t have to wait long
for confirmation – Chrissie Wellington won Ironman Hawaii on a P2 in 2007,
following it in 2008 with wins at Ironman Australia and Germany. At any
other bike company, the P2 would be the top-of-the-line bike. At Cervélo, it
is number two behind the P3.
But the P2 is not your average runner-up; no other frame in this price
category offers anywhere near the same performance. No wonder that the P2 is
regularly rebadged by pros with different bike brand logos, or that
customers sometimes have to wait months to get their hands on one despite
another tripling of our production. But afterwards, we hear the same
response over and over again: It was more than worth the wait. |

Constant width seattube
cutout – Most cutouts in aero seattubes vary in
width as you move up and down. This is not ideal with a tire behind it that has
a constant shape. The P2 cutout has a constant width that carefully matches the
following tire, thereby greatly improving aerodynamics.
Aero headtube - no bulky nose
cone, but an extremely thin, aerodynamically optimized shape
CCS - Constant Cross-section
Seattube - The airflow over the seattube is predominantly horizontal. The new
seattube shape has a cross section shape that is separately optimized everywhere
between bottom bracket and the seatstay joint.
IAA seatpost – Cervélo’s
Integrated Accessory Attachment allows you to securely attach a behind-the-seat
carriage system – no need to clamp anything to the saddle or around the seatpost.
Several manufacturers make components to fit the IAA system.
Integrated Seattube collar –
Invisible to the airflow, while still allowing the seatmast to be removed, this
design is both the most aero and allows for easy traveling and adjustment.
ICS Internal CableStops -
Cervélo’s standard setting cable routing system. Easy to install, easy to
service, easy to keep clean and improved aerodynamics..
UCI legal - As with all our
frames, the P2 is UCI legal
Frameset - The P2 is also
available as a frameset |
|
More
aerodynamic frame – By exploiting the
opportunities of carbon fiber, the headtube, downtube and rearwheel
cutout are further improved. The seattube collar is also fully
aerodynamically integrated.
Lighter frame – While
the P1 already has a very competitive weight, the P2C shaves another
100g off.
Lighter, more aero fork
- The P2 comes standard with the 3T Funda Pro fork.
Lighter, more aero seatpost
- The P2 seatpost has a better thickness-to-chord ratio.
Componentry – The P2 is
also available in a DuraAce component kit . |

Airplanes require different airfoils than bicycles. Sounds logical, but many companies are so proud to say their airfoils come from the National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA). So did we, 13 years ago. But now, we design our own specific airfoils, and it has led to significant improvements. It’s one of the reasons why we spend weeks and weeks in the windtunnel each year, not hours (if any) as is customary in the industry. When you have the most and the best engineers working on aerodynamic improvements and you give them more time to play in the windtunnel sand box than anybody else, you end up with faster bikes. Simple. | | |
Patent-pending technology from our carbon materials and
manufacturing group, Smartwall elaborates on the Squoval tubeshape. With the
sides far away from the center plane more important, we concentrate more
material there to increase the benefit.
Strips of High and Ultra-high modulus carbon stiffen the sides of the main
tubes to resist lateral bending. These strips are feathered in to properly
transfer the loads from the joints into these tubes.
Finally, we add Kevlar to the headtube/downtube area for industry-leading
impact strength. | |

Cervélos fit better. In the end that is the main reason why they
have become the most popular time trial & triathlon bike in history. Of course
we have unparalleled aerodynamic know-how, and the frames offer great power
transfer and handling. But the most important reason why people are comfortable
and fast on Cervélos is that they fit properly.
Cervélo geometry offers two large benefits:
| |
1) |
It puts the handlebars and saddle in the right
position relative to the bottom bracket very easily in its standard
set-up, making it easy to find a fast and comfortable position. |
| |
2) |
It offers a very wide range of positioning option
thanks to the seatpost design and the different headtube lengths between
the P1/P2 and the P3. This allows our customers with a not-so-standard
fit to take advantage of Cervélo’s superb aerodynamic and handling
performance without any need to go custom. |

frame size is no longer equivalent to the seattube length, so don't
determine the size that way. Simply go by the size sticker, or measure
the headtube and look it up in the above chart. | | 75 Degree Seattube

During the development of the P2 and P3 models,
Cervélo has ensured that these models comply with the new UCI
regulations that came into effect on
January 1, 2000. The main points of the new rules are:
- Frames have to be of a double diamond
lay-out
- Both wheels have to be the same size
- All tubes have to fit within a 80mm wide template, except
near the joints where more room is allowed
- A credit card has to fit between the seattube and the tire.
Don't jam it through, as the official may not try that either.
Just play it safe, and if there is any trouble sliding the
credit card through, move the wheel a millimeter further back. A
3mm gap will enable a credit card to slip through without a
problem (2.1mm should do it theoretically). The horizontal
drop-outs of our TT bikes enable the rider to achieve the
appropriate gap irrespective of the size of tire used.
Several national federations are working on
a grace period so that people with old bikes can still compete in
events. But this grace period will likely only apply to bikes
purchased before January 1, 2000, so if you are looking to buy a new
bike, please ensure that your bike is approved by the UCI. And for
more information on a grace period, contact your own national
federation.
The link below will
show you the UCI approval of our models. To make sure things go
smoothly at the pre-race technical inspection, you can print this
out and present it to the commissaires. Be sure to print it in
grayscale and high quality for proper reproduction of the drawings.
